After the interval, Panama tightened its grip on the game and missed multiple opportunities to tie the score, but Nunez calmed Uruguay’s fears in the 85th minute with a composed volley into the bottom corner.
After a defensive blunder by Mathias Olivera, Jose Fajardo smacked an attempt wide in the 52nd minute, then Jose Rodriguez put Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet to the test with a fierce long-range drive.
Uruguay was in control for a large portion of the second half, but Nunez, who had previously missed several opportunities, calmed the team down in the 85th minute with a composed volley into the bottom corner after a rebound fell to him.
