Athletes holding Russian or Belarusian passports who have been invited and verified as eligible to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are known as Individual Neutral Athletes (AINs). The International Federations’ (IFs) particular eligibility standards and the currently running qualification events were used to calculate the AIN quotas on the playing field.
There may be fewer qualifying athletes in some sports than there are earned quota spots. Under such circumstances, these quota spots will be redistributed to athletes representing other NOCs in line with the IF’s qualification rules.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) set tight eligibility requirements for AINs for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 in December 2023. Further details are available here.
The Individual Neutral Athlete Eligibility Review Panel (AINERP) was formed by the IOC EB in March 2024 to assess each athlete holding a passport from Belarus or Russia for eligibility to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, as well as the eligibility of their support staff. The IOC EB gave the AINERP and the IOC administration the power to extend an invitation to an AIN and their entourage so they might compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
